In case of cancellation due to unplayable pitch conditions or withdrawals，a decision is made whether both sides should be credited with a point or no points depending on the circumstances surrounding the cancellation. For example，if a team fails to appear at the scheduled kick－off time，all its matches that week will be given an automatic nil —— nil result while if weather conditions prevent the kick off until later in the day，the game can be credited provided that the referee considers the pitch playable. If neither side scores in regulation time，extra time must be played unless both teams agree to continue playing after dark．
The top twenty six ranked nations at the end of each calendar year are entitled to earn points towards qualifying for the 2006 edition of the World Cup final tournament under the current qualification format which runs from June 2003 through September 2005，with 2004 being used only for CONMEBOL and OFC teams。
